I like Lloyd's (SE corner of Wacker and Madison) but it is more of a bar scene and not so much for pre-opera meals.

Other alternative is Rivers just across Madison. It is right across Wacker from the box office doors, prices are not obnoxious, food is good and not overly fancy and they are very used to accommodating people who are running late for a performance ( been there, did that too. If you are getting supper beforehand you can go to McDonalds ( been there, done that). You can get longer parking for cheaper prices. If you are driving, check either ParkWhiz or SpotHero parking apps. Otherwise, you can discretely bring your own food. I have gotten a 'gourmet sandwich, chips water and a cookie. Sometimes with the long Wagner pieces, Lyric offers a prepaid box supper. Also, if you use Goldstar repeatedly ( and in any city) your name moves up in their algorithm and you get a better seat. You won't know exactly which seat you will get but I usually get my Lyric tickets thru them and have never had a bad one. Since you obviously don't have a subscription, I suggest you get your ticket through. They are kept at the coat check room where teh line forms for teh elevators (this will be clear once you are there, but if not, ask the ushers- they are really cool) Moomoo14 is correct about free opera glasses. Business casual in the norm although there will be some young women in prom type evening dresses and more than a few in jeans.

Sight lines are best in the front half of the dress circle and the front roughly 10 rows of the upper balconies.ĭon't dress up. For the price they charge, opt for one of the balconies at the same cost. The rear main floor seats underneath the balcony get muffled sound in my opinion.
